Bellamy Harbor Park

Helping turn the Empire State’s symbol of industry into a recreational icon

Got a mule … her name is Sal … you probably shouldn’t take her to Bellamy Harbor Park, but why not launch a kayak or have a nice picnic? This park along the Erie Canal is a former refueling site for barges that once steamed back and forth through Rome; now, a dock, walkway and picnic tables provide a place to watch boats go by, or go fishing.

At a glance
  • Park is home to the annual Canalfest, a three-day event held the first weekend in August featuring music, children’s rides and more
  • Docking a boat and need supplies? It’s a half-mile walk to downtown
  • Park owned by the New York State Canal Corp
