Saratoga & North Creek Railway

Diesel engine, dome cars - Excited Train Guy gives it a thumbs up

Seen Excited Train Guy? Oh, he was a YouTube sensation – he went viral in 2012 after losing it (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIkswzYzS3M) when he saw a 1953 diesel operated by the Saratoga & North Creek Railway move down the tracks. You may not get quite as excited about trains … (and it turns out that the guy foaming at the mouth is the railway’s GM) … but don’t let that stop you from riding the rails. Regular service to nine stations from Saratoga Springs to North Creek resumed in 2011, after years of operating as a scenic railroad.

At a glance
  • Wish you could hit the slopes without having to drive there and back? A Snow Train in winter months hauls skiers to Gore Mountain, with a free shuttle to take them from the train station to the hill
  • Look for fall foliage trains, “Polar Express” holiday trains, dinner trains and other special events
  • Full-length dome cars give riders an up-close view of the Adirondacks and the Hudson River
