Titus Mountain

Families find new life at easy-to-manage ski area

Like a lot of small-town ski hills, Titus started with a rope tow up a hill. Unlike a lot of small-town ski hills, Titus is still going strong: It will mark its 54th winter in 2014. The mountain, which has a 1,200-foot vertical drop, almost didn’t make it, but new local owners in 2011 spent more than $1 million bringing the mountain up to snuff – new tree-heavy glades and trails were cut and the lodge renovated in 2013. Titus makes up for its lack of hair-on-fire steeps with a family-friendly vibe that keeps people coming back.
