Woodsmen’s Days

Axes, saws, greased poles: Must be July in Tupper Lake

If you didn’t listen to your mother when she said you’d put your eye out with one of those things, you might have gotten good enough to compete at this annual lumberjack competition in Tupper Lake. Axe-throwing, speed chopping, log rolling, chainsaw carving and more draw thousands of spectators a year to this event. Now more than 30 years old, the Woodsmen’s Days are a tip of the cap to Tupper Lake’s extensive logging history.
