Yellow Barn Winery

The burgeoning wine industry in the Thousand Islands takes root

As you stroll the rolling hills of the Thousand Islands, the waters of the St. Lawrence River not far away, you might think: This is a great place for a vineyard. And then the winters set in, and the mercury plummets to 40 below – enough to kill a weaker grape – and you think, maybe not. But the development of cold-hardy grapes has given rise to Yellow Barn and several other wineries and vineyards that make up the Thousand Islands-Seaway Wine Trail. Yellow Barn produces several varietals of whites and dry or sweet reds.
