Fulton County Historical Society & Museum

But there’s more to this museum than that.

They call it “Gloversville” for a reason – they started making gloves here in 1810, and 3 million pairs were made here every year by the end of the century. (The main theater in town? The Glove.) That heyday is over, done in by cheaper imports, but this museum has exhibits on tanning leather and a replica of a small glove shop.  They played baseball here, too – three major league teams visited Fulton County, back in the day, and there’s a permanent baseball exhibit as well.

At a glance
  • You’re guilty of something. Put yourself in time-out in the cell from the county jail.
  • The mechanical call system on use at the Gloversville Fire Department until 1979 has been restored and is on display.
  • Get the feeling there may be ghosts at the museum? Could be – there’s an exhibit on paranormal investigations available for review.
